Privacy Policy

Last updated 5 July 2026

This site (subhadeepghosh.com) is my personal portfolio and writing site. I keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the newsletter, answer messages, keep the site secure, and support the site with advertising. I do not sell your personal data.

What I collect

You share data with this site in three ways.

  • Newsletter. If you subscribe, I store your email address so I can send occasional updates. That is the only field I keep.
  • Contact form. If you send a message, I store what you type (your name, email, and message) so I can read it and reply.
  • Technical data. Like almost every website, my hosting provider (Vercel) records standard server logs such as IP address, browser type, and the pages requested. I use these only to operate the site and investigate abuse or errors.

Spam protection

To keep bots out, the contact and newsletter forms record a one way hash of your IP address, not the address itself. The hash is salted, so it cannot be reversed back into your IP. It is used only for rate limiting.

Cookies

The site itself does not set marketing or tracking cookies. If advertising is enabled (see the next section), the ad network sets its own cookies, and you can control those through the links below or your browser settings. Blocking cookies does not break anything on this site.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

This site may display advertising served by Google AdSense. When ads are shown, Google and its partners use advertising cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.

  • Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings and opt out of some other vendors' cookies at aboutads.info/choices.
  • How Google uses data from sites that show its ads is explained at Google's partner sites policy.

If you are in a region that requires consent for advertising cookies, such as the EU or the UK, you will be asked for consent before those cookies are set.

Analytics

The site does not currently run a third-party analytics tracker. If I add privacy-friendly analytics later, I will update this page to say exactly what it measures.

Where the data lives

Form submissions are stored in Supabase, a hosted Postgres provider, behind row level security. Only this site, using a server side key that is never exposed to your browser, can write to those tables. The site itself is hosted on Vercel.

How long I keep it

I keep newsletter emails until you unsubscribe, and contact messages for as long as I need them to follow up. Server logs are kept only for the short window my hosting provider retains them.

Your rights

Wherever you are, you can ask me what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Send me a message through the contact page and I will take care of it. This covers the rights granted under laws such as the GDPR in the EU and the DPDP Act in India.

You can also unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time, and no part of the site requires an account or a login.

Children

This site is written for working software engineers and is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted data here, let me know through the contact page and I will delete it.

Third-party links

Articles link to other sites, and those sites have their own privacy practices. Once you leave subhadeepghosh.com, this policy no longer applies. See the disclaimer for how I treat external links.

Changes

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, I will update the date at the top. Questions are welcome through the contact page.
